A Houdini Dog!
This should not be an issue you with your Walk Your Dog With Love dog harness. If it is, it can be solved in a second with a simple 'Scooch & Set'. See the video below for the details.
As the Dad of 5 dogs, that is one of my biggest fears, and exactly why - in addition to the pulling/control issues - I developed a Houdini proof harness for my pack.
Dogs worldwide (and even a few thousand very slinky cats), don't have any escape issues with Walk Your Dog With Love . . . as long as their humans follow the simple fitting adjustments.
Why do dogs escape harnesses?
Many dogs can easily ecscape a rear-attached harness. They usually 'back out' of them. We make this easy to do as we 'hold open the back door' - raising the back side of the harness for the dog to slip under. And because the dog's own weight is pulling them down, they just fold up their front legs . . . and they are free.
Some dogs can even escape a collar by slipping out backwards too!
They can also easily step out of the front of an Easy Walk front-leading dog harness because that harness rides very low to begin with, and then it loosens up while a dog is wearing it - not good!
What makes Walk Your Dog With Love so hard to escape?
Walk Your Dog With Love adjust in 360 degrees - so you can fit the harness exactly to your dog's particular body size AND shape. It not only adjusts for the chest and the belly, it also adjusts for width. No other harness does this. This means a dog of the same weight, yet a different shape (think a Bulldog and a Borzoi), can be fit in the same size harness.
And better yet, once the harness is adjusted, you can even tailor it exactly to the dog, like a custom-made suit (or strait jacket!).
And we definitely want your dog walking in a harness because collars and chokers are just not a safe, compassionate or friendly way to be walked. You can see why we say this here.
TO PREVENT HOUDINISM: Make sure to adjust the harness correctly and make sure you have the right size harness to begin with.
Fitting The Harness
Please take a moment to make sure the harness is a) adjusted correctly and b) put on your doggie correctly. Please watch the video below . . . even if you have seen it before.
It should fit approximately like it does on Teddy, the blond dog in the how to get the right size section below
Getting the right size is easy. It can usually be done just by knowing
your dog's approximate weight.YET, to totally make sure you get the right size, see the Girth measurement chart below. Girth is the measurement that goes over your dog's shoulders, right behind the front legs, and back up again. Like the red arrow shows.
Please measure with your dog standing. Measure it as if it was the harness - not too tight, not too loose.
If your dog can fit in two size harnesses, we usually prefer the bigger dog in the smaller harness. If the measurement is at the very top of one size, then go up to the next size. If you still have sizing questions please email us your dog’s WAG (Weight, Age, Girth as described above and in the picture) and we will help you.
If you have a puppy, we have a Puppy Promise, where the next size up is just half price. Yes, even if you have a Great Dane.
Getting what you need is easy, it’s done in two separate transactions:
