Broccoli, April 23, 2013, in memoriam

My beautiful and sweet Broccoli dog passed away on Tuesday.

Broccoli was 14 years and 8 months old. He was definition of Sweetness. I will miss him forever. So please think about him today – Broccoli, Broc, Leeky, Leekus . . . The sweetest and kindest dog. Smart and handsome. A tough Marine. An independent Spirit. My Love.

This is literally the last photo of him, it was taken just a few days ago. He is the Black dog, Teddy is the Blondie, I am the one with the goofy look. Broc hated having his photo taken, so I didn’t do it too often. He would sometimes even run and hide!

All was fine Tuesday morning. We even went for our long walk. When we got home he had a sudden mood change and grew lethargic, he didn’t even want his favorite treats. Now THAT is a bad sign – especially for my little snout man – he would eat anything, anywhere, anytime.

I checked him and saw that his tongue and gums were white. I looked that up on Google and it meant he could be having internal bleeding. We went to the vet and indeed, he did have internal bleeding.

From what?

We discovered he had a tumor on his spleen and his liver was very cancerous.

So I made the toughest decision of love and had him euthanized. Suffering is not fun. I buried him Tuesday night next to his brother Pilot and his friend Casey. On Wednesday I planted a Lilac tree on him. So life can bloom alive again.

So please hug your dog. And scratch and rub your dog. And Love your dog.

Broccoli is in front, with Lilac and  Lavender. Then his biological brother Pilot and his Crocuses, Daffodils and Hyacinth, and then Casey with his Day Lilies
