WHY WALK YOUR DOG WITH LOVE? BECAUSE OF TEDDY SALAD!
Teddy Salad, Teddy for short, is the sweetest, funniest, honey-colored, wide-eyed dog you would ever want to meet…until it's time to walk. Then he becomes a Golden Wacko-Loco…an uncontainable jumping bundle of excitement!
There had to be a better way to walk than constantly correcting him. TEDDY HEEL!
AH-HA!
The Ah-Ha moment for the harness occurred when Pilot, my big chocolate something-or-other dog, was recovering from leg surgery. A bit shy about putting his hurt foot firmly on the ground, the vet told me to "pull gently on Pilot's leash, and it will trigger-off his million-year-old natural instinct to pull in the opposite direction…causing him to push down with the leg he is favoring".
The vet explained that all Animals-including us-pull away when pulled on. It is called Oppositional Behavior. That is why a dog sled team is hooked up from behind. Same with a Horse and its carriage, an Ox with a plow…
WOWWEE! THAT MADE SENSE!
I immediately thought of Teddy. If pulling from behind causes dog sled like pulling…then leading from my dog from the front…wouldn't!
I ran home and switched the leash-attachment ring from the back of Teddy's old harness…to the front! What a difference it made on The Walk. No more pulling and tugging!
And not only that! I now had steering! Now when Teddy tried to go after the neighbor's cat, I had control. Horses, Camels, Cows, Mules, Ox, even Elephants are all lead from the front for the same reason - because it gives the walker steering - another word for control.
And so, lo and behold, with some tweaks and twists, The Walk Your Dog With Love dog harness was born!
